Adam Handler

"I received my B.A. in Art History from The State University of Purchase, with a minors in Fine Arts where I studied a full range of fine art fields; painting, sculpture, photography and even graphic design. In my off hours, I worked at the framing factory which inspired me to become an artist in the first place.  I've enjoyed this multi-pronged education: scholarly, studio work and the opportunity to  physicallyhandle original works from Picasso to Basquiat, from Matisse to de Kooning and more, far more.  I plan to keep on revolutionizing my art as I grow.

My adventure into the classic world of visual arts began when I was 18 and spent 3 months in Italy studying drawing with Professor Len Stokes. He pushed me to look beyond form and color and create pieces that were visually exciting and shockingly beautiful. His guidance opened my eyes to the freedom of drawing and painting, and was a defining point in my artistic journey."

Adam Handler studied Life Drawing in Italy and went on to graduate from Purchase College with a major in Art History along with courses in craft design with Jorge Nieves and printing color photography with Debra Mesa-Pelly. He has exhibited his work in New York City, Greenwich CT, Canada, and Texas. Adam is a young man with burning ambition to push the boundaries of art; and he has no plans of slowing down. His painting and photography exudes freshness.

Artist's Statement:
"Mid-twentieth century America, Vietnam, the British Invasion, Andy Warhol's simplistic commercial Campbell's soup cans and the wildness of Haring and Basquiat have long enticed me. This post WWII period always depicted character and artistic freedom, liberation from "the man". Though I was born in 1980's, I have often speculated how the feelings and emotions that conflicted youth then continue to remain relevant today. That era in particular spurred my interests in creating paintings that captured the rebellious energy of the time, while transforming the imagery into contemporary works that relate to my generation. Contemporary politics and economics, social interactions, views on love, life, and death are all compressed into my mixed media works."
