Gudmann and Slaughter

Elizabett Gudmann is an accomplished sculptor, with many bronzes made in collaboration with her partner, the master metal-smith, Kirk H. Slaughter.

Gudmann's work is conceptual in nature. It divides between fabricated, acid washed wall pieces which are a balance between sculpture and painting and her sculptures which she works with Kirk Slaughter.

The figurative and equine sculptures are studies in form and emotion. Their textured surfaces and abstracted subjects are unique in depth, emotion and attitude.

A California native, Gudmann received her BS from CSUS and lives in Northern California. Her work is included in many notable private and public collections throughout the world.

Statement -
I love being in the studio. It's where I'm the most comfortable: alone with my thoughts, listening to music, NPR talk radio, singing out loud. Translating my ideas into visual expression.
Much of my inspiration comes from the medium itself; the bronze sculptures have evolved from my relation to natural form.
. I'm drawn to the inherent beauty and unique qualities of the metal and work directly with it. Most of the work is conceptual in nature, and created within a formal panel structure. It is a complex and physically demanding process that involves etching a subtle relief into the metal with acids to create detailed surface textures and distinguishable imagery. Once etched, unique and intricate patina colors are achieved by working with a variety of caustic chemicals.
